Fainted Horizons
Point Reyes National seashore
There are places on our planet where sky, earth and water forgather. The last traces of human civilization faint in the solitude of the unfolding grandness of the wide open landscape and the sky quietly disappears in the vastness of the sky. On the quest for a greater truth, that is often referred to as the “unio mystica”[^2 (Lat.) Mystical union; the merging of the individual consciousness, cognitively or affectively, with a superior, or supreme consciousness.], a mystical unification of the soul with good, we encounter the limit of what we are able to comprehend and achieve.
The ravishing beauty and loneliness of the landscape that unfolds at Point Reyes National Seashore is able to provoke a condition of inner peace and harmony where we seem to be able to attain a closer connection to the desired condition. Nature however demonstrates our limits, both of our mental awareness and of what we can achieve as humans.

Es gibt Orte auf dieser Welt an denen sich Himmel, Erde und der Wasser vereinen. Letzte Spuren der menschlichen Zivilisation verblassen in der Einsamkeit der sich vor uns ausbreitenden Landschaft und der Himmel verschwindet zaghaft und blass in der Weite des Ozeans. Auf der Suche nach einer übergeordneten Größe, des alles vereinenden Ganzen, der sog. „Unio Mystica“ [Duden - geheimnisvolle Vereinigung der Seele mit Gott in der Mystik], der geheimnisvollen Vereinigung der Seele mit Gott, stehen wir an der Grenze dessen was wir verstehen und was wir erreichen. Die beeindruckende Schönheit Einsamkeit der Landschaften der “Point Reyes National Seashore” scheinen uns in eine Zustand des Innern Friedens und Ruhe zu versetzen, der uns näher an die gewünschte Erkenntnis heranführt. Dabei fällt uns auf, wie die Natur den Menschen ihre Grenzen aufzeigt. Die Grenzen unseres Geistes, unseres Verständnisses und auch die Grenzen unserer Möglichkeiten.
